The Beginnings. It all started in 1951 when Ted Gregory and his wife Matula opened the now-famous Montgomery Inn restaurant in the sleepy village of Montgomery, Ohio. While Ted was known as "The Ribs King", his wife Matula was the genius behind the famous barbecue sauce that put Montgomery Inn on the map!
Time to Bottle. Before 1990, the world-famous Montgomery Inn Barbecue Sauce could only be found within the restaurants' walls. This all changed when Montgomery Inn bottled the sauce so that the sweet & savory flavor could be enjoyed all over the country.
Our Sauce Today. As of today, Montgomery Inn has sold over 40 million bottles of barbecue sauce nationwide and can be found in over 1500 stores stretching across the Midwest and East Coast. It has also received critical acclaim as a top 5 BBQ sauce in the country from the likes of Bon Appétit. The story of Ted and Matula will forever be spread across the country one bottle of sauce at a time!
